There are so many things you can do to your home to improve how it works for you. Sometimes it can be as simple as changing the furniture, painting and putting a new floor covering down. Or it might be that you need to do something a little more than that such as an extension.
One thing is for sure, making the investment of time and money is very rarely wasted. There are so many ways to improve your home, whether it is using MOOWY Lawn feed to get that gorgeous garden you have always wanted, investing in an extension to give you more space for your family grow or simply furnishing your home with some clever tips and trick, you can achieve your dream home.
Especially when we consider the past 18 months it is clear how much we value our homes as our safe spaces when all else might feel a little topsy-turvey. Here are some ideas of essential improvements to make to turn your current home into a dream home.
1. Energy efficient
Not everybody is lucky enough to live in an eco-home but we can all do our bit to reduce our impact on the planet and help our pockets too. Replacing old drafty windows in your dining room, sitting room or anywhere around the house with new A-rated double glazing will help your fuel bills. This, now more than ever, is a real consideration.
As we spend more time working from home than ever before this is definitely something to consider in order to turn your current home into a dream home. Whether you choose to replace internal doors or external doors or replace your engineered wood flooring, you will no doubt make your home far more energy experience which will be a winner both for you and the environment. The difference it has made in my house is phenomenal!
2. Extend
Most of us would include an extension to help turn our current home into a dream home. If you are considering an extension there are so many beautiful light enhancing ways to consider doing this. My dream home would be flooded by light by installing an orangery. Orangeries have a base built of brick that then leads to sweeping glass windows and a stunning glass lantern roof. It will really feel like an extension of your home rather than a bolt-on. I love that they can be used across the year and not just in certain seasons, unlike conservatories which can vary from being extremely hot to freezing!
A light and airy extension can completely transform and mediocre house into an incredible house. Just remember to factor in realistic costs for an extension like this. Personally I think it will be worth it, especially if you are planning to stay in your ‘dream home’ long term. You may also need to consider additional things such as skip hire for getting rid of any waste, landscaping your garden to tie in with the extension and of course all that new furniture that you’ll want to add in. Have a look at this handy garden waste clearance guide if you are going to be doing some significant landscaping.
3. Secure
We all want to feel safe and secure in our homes. Replacing old external doors with new ones will offer significantly improved levels of security. They will have the added bonus of helping to reduce heat loss from your home too. What a dream to lock the door when you leave and feel certain that your home is a safe as can be. I love how new doors can help retain lots of heat, making them more environmentally viable too. Plus nowadays they come in such a gorgeous range of colours and designs!
4. External roofline work
This might not be on everyone’s dream home list but it should be. So that we can be confident our home is functioning to its best potential it really is beneficial to look at replacing fascias, soffits, guttering, downpipes, bargeboard and cladding. The outside of your home is just as important as inside to keeping you safe and sound – and leak free!
