The best vitamins and supplements for energy and focus

Wondering which are the best vitamins and supplements for energy and focus?

As a bust parent of three, I am constantly lacking in energy. Not just thanks to the kids waking me constantly but also due to not having as well rounded a diet as I would like and possibly due to stress and just general business of life. When I do reach an all-time low, I find taking vitamins and supplements can massively help with my energy and focus.

There is usually a lot of debate on whether supplements can boost your health or energy. One camp believes that you should be getting your nutrients from natural foods, while another camp believes that supplements help to pick up the slack.

The truth is that they’re both right, to some degree. You must have a clean diet that’s rich in protein, carbs and healthy fats. These macronutrients must be met. Having lots of plant-based foods in your diet is especially important.

That said, most crops these days are grown on nutrient-depleted soils. Modern farming has caused the vegetables and fruit we consume to look normal and yet be low in nutrients when compared to the produce we consumed 3 decades ago.

So, it’s also important to consume supplements to make up the shortfall. Make sure you take them at the same time every day too if you can. I like to have mine with my breakfast personally. While they are an added expense, they will keep you in good health and ward off disease and far more expensive hospital bills.

In some cases, it’s easier to consume a supplement than it is to get the same amount of nutrients from a particular food.

For example, consuming a fish oil supplement will be much easier than eating lots of fish – especially if you dislike the smell and taste of fish.

Supplements do not really ‘boost’ your energy. What they do is improve your health so that you are functioning optimally and have the energy to go about your day without tiring out easily.

  • Vitamin D

This is a very important vitamin that’s often neglected. A lack of vitamin D can leave you feeling lethargic, depressed and just not in the mood for anything. Millions of people are vitamin D deficient and don’t even realize it.

Ideally, you should get it from being out in the sun for about 20 to 30 minutes daily. However, if you live in a place which doesn’t get much sun, you should consume a vitamin D supplement.

  • Ashwagandha

This ancient herb is also known as ‘Indian ginseng’ and has a plethora of health benefits. It reduces stress, depression and anxiety. It also boosts testosterone and can help with giving you the extra edge when it comes to energy.

  • L-theanine

L-theanine helps to promote good sleep. This point alone is enough for you to consume it. If you want lots of energy in your daily life, you must have good sleep. This supplement will give you that.

It also increases your focus while keeping you relaxed. Quite the contradiction and yet it’s true.

  • Curcumin

Curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory. Just by reducing the inflammation in your body, you’ll discover that you have more energy.

Our diets are usually high in processed foods which cause inflammation. Curcumin will help to negate the effects of these detrimental foods. It’s also an anti-oxidant that helps prevent cancer and other diseases.

  • Fish oil

Fish oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These are the healthy fats the body craves. Our fatty acid levels are usually skewed because processed foods are high in omega-6 fatty acids. The fish oil supplements will help bring about balance.

They also help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This will help in improving heart health.

  • Magnesium

Magnesium is one of the best supplements you could consume. It not only combats depression, but also improves your performance during exercise. Imagine that! It’s better than any energy drink out there.

The biochemistry in your body will be enhanced when you consume magnesium. This in turn will leave you feeling better and more energized.

The supplements mentioned above are just the tip of the iceberg. What you need to understand is that supplements are just a means to an end.

The end is good health. With good health comes energy. Focus on cleaning up your diet, exercising more and consuming these supplements. As your health gets better, you will feel better and have more energy to do whatever you want.

This is your real goal.
